"Don't Go Back to Sleep"

February 14, 2017 is not only Valentine’s Day. It is also the 90th anniversary of the incorporation of the Institute of Religious Science! The 90th anniversary of our movement!

We are known as New Thought, but at ninety years old, we are not quite so new anymore.

What was the world like when our incorporation took place?

The President of the United States of America was Calvin Coolidge.
It cost fifty cents to get into the Savoy Ballroom
A steak sandwich at the Cotton Club cost $1.25
You could buy a record for $0.39
A raccoon coat would set you back $39.50
A console radio was $72.50
A man's suit (Coat, Vest, 2 Pr. Pants) was $15.85

Does that sound strange? Henry Ford got legions of folks to move from the South by offering Five Dollars a day for auto workers. That was a ten hour day, so Ford was paying a half dollar an hour!

The best picture of 1927 was “Wings”, and the New York Yankees beat the Pittsburg Pirates in the World Series 4-0.

So many things have changed since the time of the founding of our first organization.

But one thing that has not changed, is Dr. Holmes’ teaching of Truth.

The “Principle of Being”, as outlined in the “Science of Mind”, has only become more relevant in this day and age of instant communication, social media, and world-wide connectivity.

Rumi writes:

The breeze at dawn has secrets to tell you.
Don't go back to sleep.
You must ask for what you really want.
Don't go back to sleep.
People are going back and forth across the doorsill
where the two worlds touch.
The door is round and open.
Don't go back to sleep.

Especially in this time of rhetoric and media overload…

People are going back and forth across the doorsill
where the two worlds touch

Meaning that we will always have distractions from the Truth.

Knowing that we live in a Universal Life where our thoughts and beliefs influence our daily experiences, how can we be sure that we are thinking and believing things that are impacting our lives in a positive way?

Well of course, attending one of our Centers for Spiritual Living and taking classes is a great way to start.

But how can we continue to find wonderful things to read, listen to, and generally be inspired by?

By regularly visiting the Science of Mind Archives and Library Foundation’s website, where so many resources are always available.

We have a whole slew of free GOOD STUFF, to keep your mind engaged and inspired.

The Law is too mechanically accurate and lovingly impersonal to allow ourselves to go unconscious in these modern complicated times.

And don’t forget…we depend on your generosity to keep the doors open and the lights on. Consider including the archives in your regular giving activities through our “1st Circle” and “Friends of Ernest” programs.

So during this year of our organized movement’s ninetieth anniversary, stay firmly rooted in our teaching, and Don't go back to sleep!
